He was born on 8 February 1995 in Rottweil, Germany to parents Berthold Kimmich and Anja Kimmich. He has a sister name Deborah Kimmich. Before he joined VfB Stuttgart in 2007, he played youth football for VfB Bosingen. In November 2011, he played his first game for Germany U17 in a friendly against Azerbaijan.
Then, he was picked for the German U18 team. In November 2013, he was called up to the U19 team. He played his first game for the U19 team against France and scored a goal.
